Bouthaina Shabaan, the political and media adviser to president Bashar al-Assad, said that her country is not fearing United States’ (US) threats of striking Syria.
She further added that Israel is the main igniter of the war in Syria, adding the Syrian and Russian sides have made all preparations after the Israeli attack on the T-4 air base last week.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump responded to a Russian threat to shoot down missiles aimed at Syria by tweeting, “Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!”
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Wednesday that Syrian pro-government forces were evacuating major airports and military bases in advance of an attack.
On Thursday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad warned that threats of Western military action in response to an alleged chemical attack would only lead to further chaos in the region.
“These voices, and any possible actions, will only contribute to further destabilization in the region,” Assad said.
Dr Amanda Sloat, a Senior Advisor to the White House Coordinator for the Middle East under President Obama, has warned: “There is a difference between going after a missile and them going after US forces on the ground. ”
“That is the important thing to remember as well that we have 2000 US forces on the ground in Syria in very close proximity to where Russians have been operating in the north west of the country.”
