Christian Diaspora of ‘The German Europe’

German Europe’s (the German speaking part of Europe) forgotten Christian diaspora: Amish, Old Order Mennonites, Old Colony Mennonites, Hutterites. These groups are pacifist who don’t believe in violence or war. They emerged during the Catholic-Protestant schism (Reformation) of the 1500s.

These groups migrated from west central Europe (primarily Palatinate, Alsace and Lorraine, Prussia, Switzerland, Netherlands, and Austria) to at various times settle in Transylvania, Ukraine, Russia, and latter to North and South America,. Today, they live mostly in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bolivia.
