Furious Farage attacks PM over Brexit delays

The Ukip MEP asked Mrs May when her words will “convert into action” after the Tory leader dropped her biggest hint yet that the UK will be exiting the European single market.

Mr Farage tweeted: “More reassuring words from Mrs May on Sky this morning, but same line for several months now. When will it convert into action?”

The 52-year-old’s comments come after Mrs May said she was not prepared to “keep bits of membership” of the bloc after cutting ties, in remarks welcomed by MPs campaigning for a real Brexit.

But Nigel Farage isn’t the only Brexiteer to slam Theresa May for ruining her chance to clarify her Brexit plans.

Ukip leader Paul Nutall said: “Her answers were vague, muddy and ultimately opaque.

“‘Move along – nothing to see here’ seems to be the PM’s strategy.”

Speaking on Sky News’ Sophy Ridge on Sunday, the Prime Minister rejected allegations made by Britain’s former ambassador to the European Union Sir Ivan Rogers – who dramatically quit his post last week – of “muddled thinking” about Brexit within her Government.

She said: “I’m ambitious for what we can get for the UK because I also think that’s going to be good for the European Union. Our thinking on this isn’t muddled at all.”

Mrs May also attacked claims by some Remainers that the Government would have to make a decision between controlling immigration or remaining a full member of the single market.

She said: “I don’t see it as a binary issue. I’ve consistently said that the referendum vote was a vote for us to change – that vote for freedom of movement was a vote for us to bring control into our immigration system for people coming from the European Union.

“There’s a variety of ways that can be done – but I’m clear that is part of what we need to deliver.”
